The Sunday Scoop
A devastating reminder (praying for those in Texas!), saying 'I love you', recent outfits, what we've been up to, fun fashion finds from the past week and more.
I’m sitting at the dining room table of my family’s lake house in Wisconsin. Looking out over the lake, after the most incredible weekend celebrating my mom’s 65th birthday and the 4th of July. Watching my boys swim with their best friends, laugh in the sunshine and fall asleep with fresh freckles on their faces. It all feels so surreal how magical our weekend has been after witnessing so much devastation in Texas. I feel sick to my stomach seeing the girls missing from Camp Mystic. As a parent, your heart lives outside of your body. I can’t fathom the heartbreak these families are experiencing. Such a reminder of how precious life is. I’m holding my babies extra tight right now and reminding myself how lucky I am that they are here with me.
I hate admitting that these worldly events serve as a reminder to reframe my mindset. I wish these moments didn’t feel that way and it was easy to just always have our good fortune at the forefront of my mind. These summers in Wisconsin are always a good reset for me and this past week has felt very freeing. We had our best friends here with us this weekend (Alex and I have been friends in Kindergarten! Her three boys are the same ages as mine) and I had a moment last night where I just looked at them and told them how much I loved them. Her husband said “you’re really good at doing that, telling people you love them.” And I thought that was a very nice compliment. More of that forever and ever.
How are you doing? How is your summer going? I feel like I’ve been sort of quiet lately in a wonderful way. We have no childcare and I always feel my best when I lean in to being a mom in the summers. The summer of less - less showing up, less makeup, less worry, less question. I listen to the needs of those around me and that’s sort of it! We have been cooking, reading (I am about to finish 28 Summers and the way I have been so obsessed with the characters in this book OH MAN), swimming, fishing, going on walks and going to bed early. It’s been lovely! We have friends and family rotating in and out while we are here in Wisconsin this next month so it will be a good balance of days on and off. But also I feel the need to tell you that no one is sleeping well, we are definitely taking advantage of iPads when we need to, the kids are exhausted and eating way too many Oreos. But YOLO, it’s all part of a good summer.
A FEW RECENT OUTFITS
Asha Indigo Mini Dress (sold out but love this style, too), Luv Lou Sunglasses, Tkees Sandals
My summer wardrobe is very limited here in Wisconsin. I packed a lot of very casual pieces and then some things that felt a little more special. I love a pant and top combo that can by mixed and matched with tees and jean shorts, then a dress that can be worn over a bathing suit or dressed up for dinner. Here are a few recent looks…
Jenni Kayne Pants (I’ve had these for 3 years and love them!), Doen Henrie Top (older print, similar here), Melissa Jelly Sandals
La Maregold Celine Top, Mother Half Pipe Denim, Freda Salvador Sandals (20% off!), Jenni Kayne Raffia Bag, Scallop Sunglasses
In case you missed an entire look at what I packed for our trip (minus a few items that also slipped into my suitcase at the last minute!)…
Our most loved folder from last week had a lot of pretty bandana inspired prints! We have an entire page on SHOPMY dedicated to our “most loved” items where we are constantly saving new arrivals that we are loving. It’s a fun place to check in on because we update it daily! I also update my Shopbop hearts daily! My most recent hearts are sparking serious mid-summer joy.
A few more photos from the past week:
4th of July celebrations, a beautifully catered dinner for my mom’s birthday, dinner at an old school supper club, sundaes at the Milty Wilty, days on the lake, Jack lost his first tooth!, my beautiful mom, fishing with Georgie. Life is good.
xoxo!
I love that Alex’s hubby told you you were good at telling others you love them, that would have been a great compliment for me too. 😍 What a joy for you to be spending and treasuring the time together with loved ones. Xoxo
Love this post! Feel like I need to lean into summer more. I feel guilty when they watch TV but we are also at the pool and baseball for hours on end! We are eating too much ice cream but I'm okay with that! Love all the outfits you posted. Enjoy your time with your family and friends!
