The Sunday Scoop
Charlie turned 9, answering your questions about life, my favorite shoes for fall, a fun Halloween recipe for kids, wedding guest dresses and more.
Hi! Hope you’ve had the best weekend! I wish I wasn’t such a in the moment type of person. If I could say anything about myself it would be that I wish I were better prepared. Ideally this Sunday email would go out at 7am but here we are! I’ve also lost my phone this entire weekend - it was found and now it is lost again and I sort of love it. Hopefully I find it in the morning but if I don't, that’s okay too.
Yesterday, Charlie turned 9! On Friday night we hosted 4 boys for a sleepover and let me tell you, 5 - 8 year old boys is an ENERGY. They were wired until 12:30am when I had to dig deep for my own energy to tell them to go the sleep. I patted myself on the back for hosting on a Friday night so we had the rest of the weekend to recover but I was so tired. We were all asleep by 8:45 last night and I woke up feeling like a new person. We are took the boys out on a boat today to continue the celebrations!
I don’t often have a time to reflect on the fact that my kids are growing older and how it actually makes me feel (aside from the obvious thought that time is moving too fast). But last night, I was sitting with Charlie as he took a bath and his sweet little freckly face was looking up at me while his whole body was under bubbles and all I could see was his face at 2 years old. And I started sobbing. And his eyes were staring up at me while I told him how much I loved him and how proud I am of him and he grabbed my hand with his sweet, kind eyes and said “I know, mommy.” 9 years of being a mom and it feels like a blink and also, forever. He is the one that will introduce me to every new phase of parenting and I’m so grateful that I get to experience it with him. He is kind, empathetic, silly, confident, self aware, generous and incredibly loving. We have already been through so much together and I can’t wait for all the years ahead for us.
Also, my mom is in town! She surprised all the boys on Friday and everyone is so happy to have her here. We have been sporting, cooking, decorating for Halloween, watching movies and more. How is it almost October 1? It feels like we are about to be fully into the holiday season and I can’t believe it! Are you ready?
A new Coffee with Liz post all about LIFE! We are chatting about transitions in friendships, navigating motherhood, advice for my 20 year old self, finding a therapist and more. Here is a little preview (19 more questions answered on the blog)…
What’s your advice for a single 23 year old girl with no idea what comes next (career/lovelife/all)?
CELEBRATE THAT! I promise you, those years are transformative. Enjoy the freedom, the time to be selfish, try new things, find out what excites you, make mistakes and learn from them. Short story but I worked with a life coach during Covid and we did a lot of inner child work and I realized that my most impactful year of my young adult life was the year I was 23. I was single, living in Chicago with my girlfriends, working 6 days a week, going out all the time, completely reckless, didn’t save any $$ and LOVED LIFE. I was so selfish (in a good way!), unemotional about big picture things, literally living in the moment and just happy to be alive. It was the most freeing year of my life and also one that I truly think set me up for success. It taught me how to take care of myself, trust the inner dialogue, spend time alone and just have faith that everything works out. Life unfolds the way it is intended for you! Let it all happen.
Need a good chili recipe? THIS IS IT! It is quick and easy and delicious. Now if only Charleston would give me some temps in the 60’s, I’d be so happy.
A big roundup of the best fall shoes! I’ve had so many questions about shoes for fall and these are all styles I’m excited about (plus a ton that I own myself). There is literally something for everyone!
The Adidas Handball Sneakers (in Aluminum Core, and in Silver Pebble) are my go to’s for everyday. The Veja V-10’s, and the Autry Low Sneakers are so cute, and would be a good swap if you are looking for something different than Adidas! Any of the sneakers are great for school pickup & drop offs, however the Rothy’s Casual Clog is the ultimate “slip on and go” shoe for those early mornings.
My most asked question as of late is “what to wear to a fall/winter wedding?” So I shared a big roundup of some favorite styles!
This Doen dress is dreamy. I'm also in love with the color and silhouette of this dress.
The velvet florals on this dress are gorgeous!
I love a rich navy color for fall and into holidays! This would also be gorgeous for a NYE wedding.
I think this dress is fun if you want to make a statement! I'd pair with a fun silver slingback.
If you need a fun Halloween/fall activity with your kids, let me suggest these Rice Krispie treats! My kids request these year after year!
I update my Shopbop hearts daily and there are so many new arrivals that I’m eyeing for fall!
From the archives: a post about making a commitment to yourself. Something that I need to revisit! I need a reminder to do what feels right in the moment instead of thinking I always need to be doing something else.
I am so excited to go to bed. I love you all and am so grateful for you!
